Lots of changes since then. I sold my home after living there for almost 20 years. After a 6 month search and living in a tiny apartment, I finally found a house. My new home is not perfect, but seems perfect for me.

I have a new venture that I am so excited to share! I'm opening up an antique mall in Crystal City, Missouri. It's about a 30 minute drive from St. Louis off I55 south. I'm calling it "Bittersweet and Barbed Wire". I'm looking for quality vintage/antique dealers. Call 636-638-2333 to reserve your spot today.
Prudy from the beautiful blog Butter, Basil and Breadcrumbs purchased one of my vintage tins to display her delicious blueberry tartlets. Look closely in the back left of the photo and you may see it. Although Prudy used a tin from my shop, this post is about sharing her blog and recipes.

I love the way she uses vintage items in her photos. Not only are her photos beautiful and inspiring, the recipes are given as well. Here's the the recipe for the tartlet.
Here is the tin Prudy used, you have to admire the vision she had when she purchased it, right? A nice tin, but fairly plain. She had a plan right from the beginning. On her blog you will see many photos of other vintage items she used for inspiration.
These old tins are great to recycle as gift containers. Use a pretty paper liner, fill with cookies, candies or a little gift and embellish with old ribbon, millinery and a tag. Who wouldn't like to receive a gift like that for a birthday, special occasion or Christmas?
My Kitchen Hoosier Like Cabinet.

Do you have things that you have mixed feelings about selling? I've had this kitchen cabinet for so many years. I've used it to display just about everything. Here is a picture of it fully loaded when it was in my Kimmswick store. It had a enamel top and was complete with a flour bin.

I got a call Saturday night that this hoosier like cabinet had sold. I was shocked. Someone just walked in a loved it. I didn't know whether to be happy about the sale or sad. Either way, I know I will miss it.

Here it is when I was moving into General Grant Antique Mall a year ago, my last photo of it. My booth has evolved over the last year and is packed! It took me 4 1/2 hours to rearrange it yesterday, but that is part of the business. I know the cabinet went to a great new home. It is gone but not forgotten! I'll just have to hunt for another one!

Wishing each of you a happy and safe 4th of July!

Another day trip with my daughter. I couldn't find any estate sales so first a trip to a bakery, then off to Stuckmeyer's Farm Market and Greenhouse. I have driven past here many times but this was my first visit.

This is my daughter's first year growing herbs. The rain ruined several of her plantings so we were happy to find a couple healthy Rosemary plants here to replace them at 40% off. There is nothing like the end of season sales.

Inside we found fresh blackberries, squash, tomatoes, peaches and a watermelon for today. It's just not the 4th of July without a watermelon! I wanted to try their country eggs but they were out. Maybe next time, I know we will go back soon! I'm looking forward to visiting the pumpkin patch this fall.
I am offering this beautiful 4 piece Victorian parlor set for sale. I used it for several years in my retail store as a display. It does need some TLC. The two chairs have casters that are not shown. Original upholstery and wood finish. Local pick up only. I will consider any reasonable offer, just leave a comment if interested.Antiques Galore Galhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147097736638936368noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4613390573864800645.post-389796332106214802014-07-22T07:30:00.000-06:002014-07-22T07:30:22.502-06:00My Son James

My son James passed on June 29, 2014. He was 31. This picture was taken several years ago but is a favorite. James is on the left, his brother Thomas on the right.
Words cannot express our feelings right now. Our hearts are breaking and our lives will never be the same. I want to thank everyone who came to his Memorial Service, especially the ones who traveled many miles. Contributions can be made to the CBC soccer program in his name. The outpouring of love and support has been comforting to us and is appreciated. It will not be forgotten. It was a difficult move and I ended up with 2 units instead of the one I had planned on. I just emptied the smaller unit which I think was about 10' x 10".
Some of these items were moved to the larger storage unit, but most were moved into my new booth at the new General Grant Antique Mall. More about my booth (booth #55) to come later.
This unit is 10' x 30", the largest they have. Hopefully it won't take another year to figure out where to place all this merchandise. It is almost like going shopping again opening all the boxes and finding items I've completely forgotten about.
How about a few Valentine's to warm your heart? Isn't that what it's all about anyway? This one is sweet and most of us can remember exchanging these at school parties.
These are from a mid century tablet of funny valentines and are sure to bring a smile.
A perfect day to pull out all those cookbooks and find the perfect comfort food recipe. Of course, the Joy of Cooking is a classic, known to most people who enjoy cooking. This one is dated 1971 and is by Irma S. Rombauer and Marion Rombauer Becker. It contains over 4,300 recipes.

On a recent trip to Kansas City, I found 3 vintage cookbooks. There are great cookbooks being published now but many are more like coffee table books, full of large photos, not so many recipes. Not so with the vintage ones, they have page after page of tips on selecting, preparing, serving foods. Most recipes are basic and easy to make with ingredients you already have on hand. I have my mother's favorite recipe books and use them all the time. Maybe you will remember seeing or using a few of these.

The New McCall's CookBook by Mary Eckley. Dated 1973. Over 600 recipes.
This beautiful tree is in my youngest daughter's apartment. She chose to use red and green colors this year. Not only is it beautiful, it is almost completely decorated with ornaments and trims from estate sales and our Goodwill Outlet. We visit the Goodwill Outlet often, it's where everything is sold by the pound. You just load up your cart, push it on a scale and out the door you go!

Most of the ball ornaments were purchased from estate sales we went to for $2.00 a box. This one, however, was a "freebie" given out by an antique store with purchase. They wouldn't let us buy it, but fortunately, my daughter found a set of dishes she wanted so it went home with her.

It's a heavy ornament, made of glass and opens to a Christmas tree. It will be treasured for many years, not only because it's a beautiful ornament, but the memories that will come with.

Did you get a good look at the tree skirt? It was a goodwill find. We thought it was an afghan at first. Can you imagine someone donating this? Of course, it went right in our cart and has found a home. In bright red, white and green colors, how lucky was that?

Now for the crocheted tree topper, also a goodwill find. I thought it was probably used to cover a bottle and used as a decorative piece. My daughter had another idea and it became the tree topper.

I just wanted to mention that everywhere I shopped this year, I was told "Merry Christmas", not Happy Holiday and I very much appreciated that! It's the first time in several years that this has happened. I vowed a few years ago to not send Christmas cards unless Christmas was mentioned. No Season's Greetings or Happy Holiday cards from me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!!!! And hoping you have the best New Year!
We lost Bosco our other boxer last January. He was 10 years old and part of the family. We miss him, but have great memories. We love Boxers and finally decided it was time to have a new puppy. Boxers are affectionate, playful and of course, protective of the ones they love. Our boxer Webster is just 6 months old. He is loving his first snowfall. I just wanted to share this picture my daughter took of him playing in the snow.

Here is a picture of him soon after we got him. This was also taken by my daughter.
She carved the pumpkin to make this pumpkin candle holder. I was impressed as I had no idea she was so crafty! She has another project I'll share soon, it will be perfect for the upcoming holidays.

I know I've been gone for a while, I'll have an update soon about everything that has happened the last few months.
How many of us remember a world before this throw away plastic world? A world where items were made of wood and meant to last a lifetime. Plastic has it's place in todays world. It's lightweight, cheaper and lot's of time very pretty. And yes, there are people that prefer it. I'm not one of them. I found this in a basement buried under piles of other items from the past. As soon as I saw this mid century mobile I knew it was coming home with me!
Okay, so it does have red plastic rings for small fingers to clasp and shake to make the jingle bells ring. I'm concentrating on the beautiful aged wood, colors and simple design. Even the cords holding it together are still intact.

Look at the strap, after 50+ years the buckles and springs are rusty but haven't broken. No push button adjustments here.
I admit, I'm old enough to remember these being used above a crib, on a stroller or a playpen (now called "pack and play" for younger readers) and will always be drawn to anything that reminds me of that time. Thankfully, if not thrown away, it will last forever for future generations to appreciate and love. Of course, with the rust, I would never allow a young child to play with it, but would be perfect for a vintage wall hanging in a child's room or even in an grown up child's craft room for a gentle reminder of the past.Antiques Galore Galhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16147097736638936368noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4613390573864800645.post-76764319427640684462013-05-10T12:40:00.000-06:002013-05-10T13:32:00.522-06:00ONE CHAPTER OF MY LIFE CLOSED, ANOTHER OPENED...
After much soul searching, I have closed my shop in Kimmswick. I know I had big plans, I even posted about them here. Life changes, however, and I decided to move my business closer to home.

This chapter of my life closed when I finally took my sign down, on the very last moving day. My last day of business had been a couple weeks earlier, I couldn't take it down until I knew I wouldn't be back. It just didn't seem real.

I want to thank all the wonderful vendors I've had over the year, especially Kathy from Timeless. She had just painted and moved into her room when I made the decision to close. She was a little mad, a little sad, a lot tired, but overall very understanding and continues to cheer me on in my future endeavors. A great new friend!

A special thank you to Debbie and Dale from the Bunny Patch for being the best friends you could ever ask for. Debbie and I went to market several times together, some of the best times of my life! I could fill a book with all our stories, including driving home in the middle of the night from Chicago in an ice storm, driving home from Kansas City and realizing our merchandise was flying out the window! lol! Dale was always there to offer a hand when I needed something moved or the grass mowed. You don't find people like this very often!
This is a picture of the Bunny Patch during Strawberry Festival. I would stop in almost daily before driving home. Sadly, they have sold their business and will be closing in a few months as well.
As for the next chapter, I'm going to continue to sell from my booth at The Green Shag Market and my 2 Etsy shops, Antiques Galore Gal and Vintage Tinsel.

I can't forget all the customers I've meet over the years, I hope you can follow me to The Green Shag where I'll be spending a lot of time. I have some ideas for the future, but will wait until I'm sure before I post. So stayed tuned and thanks to all!
Goodness, it's been a while! I didn't plan on taking a break, but life has a way of taking over. A lot has happened the last 6 months, including the birth of a beautiful granddaughter, my second grandchild in 2 years.
Another big event is person that shared my shop space retired and moved out. For the first time in years, I have the shop all to myself.
I've decided to convert the upstairs to a mini "antique mall". Not as big of a change as you might think since I've always had a renters and items on consignment. However, I am now thinking of taking on about 20 quality antique dealers. The beginning is shown in the photo above.
Much work had to be done in preparation for this, including cleaning, painting and booth spaces.
As you can see, the wall color was very dark. I like dark colors, but it had started to look dingy.

I took the plunge and painted it a country white. The floors are painted a dark brown. A huge difference, but I'm liking it.

I just had to post about this vintage sewing basket I found last week. My grandmother taught me how to sew on her treadle sewing machine when I was in high school. She gave me a similar one which I still have. I believe this one dates to 1940's or 1050's. It is made of a material similar to raffia, but possible a plastic. Funny how vintage lovers are always drawn to items that bring back fond memories. It takes us back to a time when women actually had the time to sit down and sew clothes for themselves and their families.

The inside is still intact, with minimal staining to the fabric. A loop to hold a thimble is in the center of the pin cushion on the back side of the top.

My mind started to go to work just like it did with the other graphics Keren did for me. I thought, why not use it for a sales tag?

I just used some of the cardstock I printed the tags up on to write the price, then simply taped it to the cut out spool and added a string to hang with.

Post Office Restoration Fund Raising Event
Tin Cup Gifts & Bistro
6025 Third Street Kimmswick, MO 63053
My love of vintage is not limited to just antiques and collectibles. I also love old buildings, the older the better. This restoration project is the Kimmswick post office located on Front Street in Kimmswick, Missouri. It's been in operation since 1858. It currently is open 6 days per week until 12 noon. There is no mail delivery, only post office boxes. As you can imagine, it is the hub for our little town and we want to preserve it!
